how hard is it to bust the stuff out of a dpf?

08 F-350 crew cab Lariat 4X4 Dually auto 4:10 gears.

Air chisel will work. Wear a mask, the ceramics inside are nasty.

worthy suggestion has been posted in form of wearing the mask as it would not only put you on the safe side but you may concentrate more on your work as well

I've opened the case with a plasma torch, rolled the innards out, then welded the case back together. The engine exhaust is a bit louder, (more throaty sounding) but no detriments so far on an '11 F-250.

The question I seek an answer for is simply; why, or why not?
