I need help. What method do dyno operators use on diesels....

I've been the dyno operator for gas cars and trucks, but never a diesel. What methods are there for these animals?
Where do I get rpm signal?
What gear do I pull in for a 6 speed CTD?
Can I dyno an automatic? Do I just let it run through the gears?
Is there anything I need to be careful of, that is different from dynoing a gas vehicle?

I need this info because I will be the dyno operator and don't want to mess anything up. Thanks

Joshua

I dynoed for the first time this past weekend. They used a reflective tape on the crank balancer and a optical pick up. Ran the truck up to drive(auto) 1:1 ratio. Mashed the go peddle until a predetermaned RPM(mine was 3100) That's it in a nut shell.

Duct tape... turning No No No into mmmmmm mmmmmmm mmmmmmm
