686 farmall

question for the electrical guys. have a farmal 686 diesel. it came with 2 6v batteries in series. if my memory serves me correctly i could connect 2 12v in parallel and double the wattage to the starter. isnt the wattage that turns the thing over.

Watts.

Actually, starters are rated in terms of HP, and HP is converted to watts (kw actually).

12V = 12V no matter how you got there and 400A is 400A.

Two 400A 6V in series = 2 200A 12V in parallel because 6 x 400 = 2400 and 200 x 12 = 2400.

was my thinking. it has 2 650 amp 6v, i could put 2 850 amp 12v and spin it like a top

2 650 CCA in series to get 12V will still give you 650CCA. A SINGLE 12V 850CCA will spin it better than the two 6V 650 CCAs will, but not for as long
