Blown Deere 6068 engine
Yesterday had a JD 6068T Blow a head gasket or......
. Blowing exhaust out the radiator and engine oil in coolant.
What happened is its a 97 model in a orchard sprayer. Pushing 8000 hrs, all of it at 2200rpm full load. Got hot and Murphy gauges failed to shut it down because of a dam broken wire
from temp sending unit to murphy guage. Guages are hard to see as driver pulls sprayer with truck thats in my avator, and guages get constantly coverup up with spray material, thus the reason for Murphy's.
My choices were:
1. New engine, ~$20,000
because new ones are required to be latest tier level smog compliant. Also JD said it would take 90-100 days to get
2. Reman short block, ~$9,000, plus what ever it takes to transfer all accessaries, manifold, IP, turbo etc....
#1 and 2 require a core thats still turns over so Calif can destroy it
, No problem since I can still run engine.
3. Do an overhaul, ~$4,000
Guess which one I'm doing? .................................................. .................
At least it was on the higher hour machine as my other one has less then 5000 hours.
