Orchard spraying

Almonds are now in bloom. Wet weather brings on a number of fungal diseases that must be controlled/prevented. Pictured is a Nelson Super 80, orchard sprayer(airblast sprayer) spraying the trees, pulled by our Dodge Cummins pickups that have been modified. The sprayer is powered by a John Deere 6068 engine, 185 Hp that is connected directly to the fan mounted behind the tank. The Fan is a twin fan, 40" diameter running at 2200rpm. The air discharge is around 80,000 cfm. I can't remember exactly but the air speed is around 150-180mph at the discharge.

Pickup is a 5 speed, has a front axle disconnect switch so I can use 4x4 low in 2 wheel drive when I don't need 4 wheel drive. Wheel base was shortened 30", Running 12-16.5 front tires and 33-15.50/16.5 rear tires. The air cleaner you see mounted behind the cab is a a charcoal filter to provide filtered air into the cab that removes pesticides from air so the driver has clean air.

Yes its for the branches, also it protects the windshield. The tires are skid steer loader type tires (tractor tire type lugs) to help keep going in muddy conditions. They have a pretty good howl noises going down the road plus the 3" straight pipe from turbo back makes a nice throaty sound.
