Picked up a 42 Ford 2N

I have been on the hunt for a small and affordable tractor. I found this jewel sitting in a guy’s back yard and it had not been touched in a couple of decades. He gave me his price and I told him if it runs as good as he claims he has a deal. I came back two weeks later and sure enough, that things runs like a sewing machine. The fuel system needs a good cleaning and there are a few maintenance issues I have to deal with. But other than that, for a 72 year old tractor that has sat outside for so long I cannot complain. It has already been converted to 12V and I have no intension of restoring it. I like it just the way it is. I even like the drunken stupor flame job.

By the way, why does the serial start with 9N if this is a 2N?

Like the bungee cord holding the grill together. Adds to the character

You are correct. I allowed the dry rot to fool me. I will get that corrected.

By they way even though its a 2N it will have a 9N serial number because the 2N was a renaming of the 9N mainly due to war rationing but also due to cumulative improvements made since the introduction of the 9N. It was introduced in 1942, but it is of note that both were referred to as Ford-Fergusons and their serial numbers both began with 9N.
