Bragging about JD4440

Have a pulling tractor in Texas that is pretty good but i don't have the time to travel. I want compare to other peoples tractors. I don't know the HP and boost but it runs pretty and has for about 7 years without any more blow-by. Heck I even still use it on the farm. It turns around 2450rpm and smokes pretty good at full throttle but at working speeds (1600-1850) does not smoke except on startup. It has a bigger turbo on it with a reworked intake and exhaust. What do you all think the power output is?

What else is done besides the work mentioned? Pump work, injectors?

well in stock trim back when she was new, the 4440 made 130 hp with the 466...but like bouncer said what else have you done to the tractor...is it a true pulling tractor or like a farm stock with just a twist of the fuel screw???...the 4440 is very similar to a IH 1066 with 126hp and the 133hp 1466 and those size tractors...now keep in mind that was with almost no hours, cold starts or years of abuse so your probably a little lower...let us know what else you've done and we should be able to give you a better estimate...

Ran a late model 4650 w/ PS and MFWD that was turned up to 200. Pulled a 30' Deere 330 disc with cone blades like nobody's business. Hard pulling SOB. Not a heavy smoker, though. At least not much more than stock.

I have a 4250 JD that dynoed 159hp wehn it was in for the fall service. that makes me wonder because I turned it up 1/4 turn when I needed alittle more hp, and turned it back down when I was done cause it ran a little hot. Great puller if you have the weight to put it to the ground.

We use to own a '79 4440 w/quad range. It was a DOG when we first got it. Then we turned up the torque. After that it would pull our JD 2800 5 bottom plowgood. Then at about 2700 hrs, we had to do some motor work. We installed 6 hole tipped injectors shimmed to specs, 4640 turbo and intercooler, and had the pump rebuilt. BOY WOULD SHE RUN! Ran her like that for 3 yrs. Then we got greedy and wanted a nicer cab so we traded it in on a 7800 MFWD. (big mistake) So when the dealer got our 4440 to their shop, they dynoed it. It started at 220hp and pegged right off their 250hp dyno. So we technically don't know how much it had. But I will tell you that the best thing we did was go with those 6 hole tipped injectors. Cut our fuel consumption by a 3rd. Sorry for a lengthy post, just brought back some memories when I saw the 4440 post.
