STX 500 Code

Has anyone else had problems with an STX 500 code? Our tractor last fall would jump out of gear and stop. go to idle speed but still run. Then we would have to shut it off and let it set for about 30 seconds and restart it and it would be fine for a while. Eventually it got worse though and we had to consult our local dealer. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

Wasn't a STX, but on a MX 240 or 270 that my uncle leased to pull his 16 row planter. Thing kept blowing fuses. When it would blow one, the transmission would stop the tractor NOW! Even happened on the road. Fortunately he had the seat belt on, otherwise he would've been thrown into the windshield. Dealer wrench came out 4 times and they wound up hauling it back and getting him a different tractor.

That would suck! But ours had an engine code in the electronics that was screwed up. Ours never blew any fuses.

Ah, OK. The way you wrote it, you made it sound like a trans problem and it was telling the engine to defuel, as in limp mode.

Had a very similar problem in the big grey White that we used to have. You would be going across the field and it would just stop and try to go again, throwing codes all over the place. It ended up being a bare wire in the harness that ran out from the console (trans, throttle, 3pt, etc). It would short it self out and stop the tractor dead in its tracks. Traced it and fixed it, never another problem with it again (other than the fact that it was a White!)

Does the owners manual have the list of codes. I am not familiar with the red equiptment but I now on all our Deere's and Cats we can get the code number and look in the manual; for the code to tell us what it is.
Do you have the code # that it is throwing?

They show most codes, but not all. At least for Deere. Can't say on Cat.

Our Cat 55 is all mechanical it is pretty much manageable, But when we had the 95E It was all electronic and it had an onboard computer that will tell you everything as far as the Deere's go All the code for are tractor and combine can be found in the book and I know that because thiss fall we threw alot of codes in the combine. By the way bmoeller did you get to see the tiling project there on Rte 6 east of Annawan across from the ethanol plant.

No, haven't been on 80 or 6 past Annawan for a while. Been running north of there or west as of late.

ALL of the STS machines we have had over the years have thrown LOTS of codes. I couldn't find them all in the books for the combine or headers. Had to call the dealer more than a few times to figure them out. Most were stupid ones and they said to run it and not worry about it. Everything still worked.
