surprising find

Right now in the shop we have a 1968 856 international. Its in cause of fuel in the oil, which is from the lip seals in the rosa master fuel pump the adapter that goes in the front cover. The surprise is i pulled the oil pan cause owner wanted bearings checked, i pulled 4 and 5 rods and all mains but 1 and 7. International, and John Deere stamp the date on the bearings as to when they are made in the engines. They say 12 68. The tractor was bought new by the owner, and has never had the engine done. Since December of 68 when it was made. It has a pile of hours too. He said it had a hour meter put in it and doesn't remember how many it had on it then but it has 16,000 on it now. That is crazy It has some oil leaks but the bearings did not even look real bad. Just goes to show that if you keep up on maintenance what can be accomplished. Just wanted to share that because i thought that was cool myself.

We have a Mack truck with over 23,000hrs on it. never been touched. Have a Deere 4430 that has ~18,000 on it. Was o/h @ ~6000 hrs. The cylinders need honed pretty bad. They're polished up all purdy.

Excellent maintenance goes a LONG ways!

Weve got a jd 3020 thats the same way. Its had several hour meters put in it, and has been overhauled once. Id hate to guess how many hours it has on it though.

we bought an IH truck from a grain company last fall with a Cummins ISM that has close to 24,000 hours and nearly 740,000 miles that's never been opened. a couple tractors/loaders that are over 8,000. not nearly 16,000 on any tractors but hopefully someday. of course we've had equipment with engines that blow up with less than 2000 hours too.

It is kinda good that not every one does good maintenance. If they did i would not be busy or maybe not have a job, haha.

i wouldn't say maintenance had much to do about it. one was a crank gear that kept slipping on the crankshaft so they warrantied us the lower block, twice. the first time they just tried to replace the gear and the crank and then in a couple weeks it did it again so then we got a new lower half. that one was a CNH engine out of a 2210 buehler versatile. i guess that one didn't really blow up but sure didn't run real well. another was a connecting rod that they figured didn't get tightened correctly from the factory and made a hole in the side of the block so they warrantied that one for us. that was a Sisu engine out of a 765b cat challenger. another was an engine that was serviced before it was parked, sat a couple years, and then a connecting rod decided to make an early exit when we tried using it again. that last one was a cummins 8.3L out of our 1660 IH combine.

i had to edit that one a little more. it wasn't a 765b challenger but a 665b with the Sisu engine. we had a 765 with a cat C9 engine that he high pressure oil pump took a dump while still under warranty. again, it had always been serviced within the factory recommendations.
