175 allis diesel

i have this 175 allis. bought about 2 months ago. runs great. problem with power director. (hand clutch). dont want to release completely. got a repair manual from I&T manuale. it states i need red atf type a in fromt gear case with hand clutch and reg gear oil rear case with tranny and final drive. currently the fluids are reversed. with the red in rear. is the book wrong or is the dealer i bought from wrong in what he has in this tractor. with the wet clutch plates in the front case it would make sense to use atf. but i am not a tractor mechanic.

I have never heard of using ATF in any Allis tractor, but I may be wrong. Go to this forum and ask your question. You will probably get a quicker answer.

Thinking more about this, I wonder if that is not a typo in the manual. Again I am not 100% for certain, but I am thinking the ATF they are calling for should actually be UTF or Universal Tractor Fluid. It is commonly found in farm stores by the 5 gallon bucket and is used in shared hydraulic systems. The Allis version of UTF is called 303 fluid.

I am not sure if the 175 is the same as my 200, but I have one fluid in the tractor other than engine oil and fuel......UTF (universal hydraulic). My 200 does seem to "pull" a little, especially when cold, when the hand clutch is in the nuetral position, trans in gear and foot clutch out. Once everything warms up it is hardly noticible. As a matter of fact, I very seldom use the foot clutch when mowing or baling. Make sure that all the linkage is adjusted properly and not slightly towards the "high" or "low" side. My tractor is VERY picky on adjustment, either not disengaging or slipping in "high" unless I hold the lever all the way to the end of the travel. Hope I could help....
