What is the proper hookup to charge a 12v system with two 6 volt batteries in series with a 12v charger? Thanks

Just like you said. The bats need to be connected in series, not parellel.

negative to ground on vehicle from bat 1.
positive on bat 1 to negative of on bat 2
positive on bat 2 to vehicle connection.

Charger negative to negative on bat 1
Charger positive to positive on bat 2

Best to charge them individually. NOT as a pair. Will take less time that way, as well.

I don't think Legend has a charger that has 6 volts so he needs to do two 6 volts in series. I agree doing one at a time is better if he has a 6 volt setting
