Welp...its been a while..

since i have posted up in the road kills section...been pretty busy with work and tryin to sell a buncha stuff... anyways. have 2 stories from last night
1st one is some idiot in a bone stock w/exhaust 24V manual tried to race me at a stoplight. he got the jump on me by about 2 lengths or so....then I finally caught traction and went rippin by em! i think DAN might have seen this race....

2nd one i kinda hate to say....theres a few mustange in my town that WOULD NOT even make an attempt to mess with me on when i had pane or even the injectors....Now that im pretty much stock besides programmer and exhaust they start talkin chit. so i went out to race one. like an 03 or so mach1. went out on a backroad to line em up, i had it in 4x4, somebody behind us said they were going to honk...well i couldnt friggin hear em over my truck so i was pretty much waiting on the mustang to take off before i did...so i started moving and i was off, pulled waaay ahead, then he just quit...said he missed 2nd...i said ya, thats a pretty common excuse..

so he wanted to line up again, same deal i boosted and waited for him to move...guess his tires were more tacky this time cuz he caught traction pretty quick. by the time i let off the brake he was about 1/2 car ahead of me, then i jumped up pretty quick and he started reelin me in and at about 80 or so he passed me and ended up maybe 2 cars ahead...stayed in it till around 120 or so maybe and he wasnt getting any further away...then let out...

so my question is....are mach 1s THAT much more fast than a GT?? cuz i have dominated a ton of mustang GTs on just a street file....so i dunno if the guy has nos and was keepin it a secret or some crazy bolt on or what...some of my friends say his car was parked up at the local performance shop for like 3 weeks so...?? i was running a race file and it seemed to have plenty of power, but that was the first 4x4 wot ive done since loadin it and it was shifting a little rough, but seemed fine.....i was totally surprised to see him coming up on me that quick!!

The GT's have a SOHC 4.6 and they're 260 HP or so. The Mach 1's got a DOHC 4.6, basically the same engine as the Cobra, but without the supercharger. I believe those motor's are 305 HP stock.

some mach 1's in that year range come with 460's in them

I've never heard of an 03 mustang with a 460. The last 460s that were getting put in from the factory was like 97 if I'm not mistaken, and that was only in the 250s-350s. I could be wrong.

When did the Mach 1 ever have a 460?

in '69 and '70 the 351 (Cleveland and Windosr IIRC), 390 and 428 Cobra Jet were available engines for the Mach 1.

from '71 until '73 the 390 was no longer an option for the Mach 1, you then had the 302, both 351's and 2 different 428 engine options, 428 Cobra Jet and 428 Super Cobra Jet

'74 to '78 (I believe was the last year for the Mach) brought the BIG motor, the 2.6(?) V6 and the 302 V8

Ford never put a 460 in a mustang. They were in the big ford super duties, the last of which being in 1997. They were powerful, but far too heavy to even consider putting in a mustang. The ends wouldnt justify the means.

one of my buddies has a 92ish notchback stang and bought a older F250 for 100 bux that had a good running 460 in it and he was going to put it under the hood, but ended up getting a sweet deal on a 540? crate motor for it...

anyways....dan when that light hit green looked like your truck scooted off the line perdy quick... didnt mean to call you an idiot either...just tryin to make the story better! sorry

so should a pretty much stock mach1 been able to beat me then?? i was amazed when he started pullin up on me...ive raced and spanked a lot of gts in 2wd....guess im gonna have to throw some pane back on my truck and line em back up.... but like i said, he, not any of the rest of em would even start their cars to race me when it was all modded up....so i will have to keep it a secret to gettem to come back out and play...

Ford did have the 460 in some cars, just not the mustang. In the 70's 74-76 the 460 came standard in Thunderbirds and Lincoln Continental Mark 4's. It's just a shame they never made the 4-door version of the T-bird with the 460. That would have been one hell of a ride
