That's a tuff question to answer in general. Of course I only have experience with Ford's.
Depending on the years. And the PCM's.
For the 6.0's then a programmer like the SCT is best. And Eric at Innovative
does a great job. As does Matt at Gear Head, who would be my choice.
If it's a 7.3L then go with a chip. Shift on the fly is great. I have a DP Tuner
Chip in mine.
As for the gasser, a tuner is most likely going to do you the best, depending on what you want to do with it. I have my F-450 v-10 motor home programmed with a tow tune and that is all it will ever have.
And custom tunes are great, Live tuning is the best. Canned tunes are a good start, basically to get an idea of what you want. Then get with a tuner that you like and start working with them.
