Question what's that noise?

Gave my truck an engine warm up yesterday. After a minute or so, heard growling, grinding noise that came from the water pump pulley. Concerned as I am, I quickly turned the engine off and remove the fan belt and gave the engine a 5 minute rest. After that, I turned the engine back on again and the noise is gone, does this mean that my gmc water pump is approaching failure?! :HITFAN:

10-4 They are always quiet when the belt is off. If you can feel any thing other than smooth rotation when you put twist on the pulley and turn it then approaching is not the correct term. Any slack in the shaft is a reason to replace it.

There are other rotating things near this to check also, it is just as frustrating setting on the side with the idle pulley off of the bracket.
I had a water pump give me a 10 mile warning on a 35 mile trip, once. Took out the fan shroud and stuck in the hood. Week later the same truck towed in one that got the shroud and radiator and stuck in alongside the air compressor.
