Source for buying wire?

Does anyone have a good mail-order/online source for quality automotive wire? I need to do a bunch of re-wiring for all the electrical doodads I've put in my truck but the craptastic wire RadioShack sells just won't cut it. I'd like to get a half-dozen colors or so, just to make tracing individual wires in a multi-wire bundle easier...

Any marine supply for the best, independent auto parts houses are usually good. For a better than average stock an electronic parts house - mouser.com or digikey.com

know any electricians, when they pull wire in conduit there is usually plenty of extra wire all different colors.

The wire that is used for buildings is either solid or course strand. The correct wire for automotive is fine strand - it flexes a lot more before it breaks.

That said, I use the THHN for wiring that in NOT subject to movement, for anything crossing to the motor or unsupported, I use the real stuff. My favorite way to support is to tape the wire to the sheet metal and run a bead of caulk over the wire so it sticks both sides of the wire.

I spent 4 years repairing radars for the Navy to learn their way.

I bought a bad news boat from the start of mass produced fiberglass that had a lot of the wiring replaced with solid wire. The stories are true, all that is needed to break a wire is approach, the first time that the same wire broke I salvaged the wire out of a scrap boat.

I have brought stuff home with extention cord for wire and watched a tractor that had a coil wire of 12 ga solid for a burned wire when the coil failed, the tractor was still going 14 years later when I lost track of it.

I have no clue why the wire on the boat failed where a simular piece on a tractor ran a long time as the vibration on a 4cyl tractor is more than a 6 cyl boat. Might be hours 6 to 8 hundred a year for the tractor and over 2500 for the boat.
