2006 F250 6.0L surge/misses

I wouldn't call it a surge or miss but couldn't think of another term. When accelerator is applied and held at a certain place the rpms will drop approx. 100 rpms. I just got done changing the oil, oil filters and fuel filters. It was doing this before I changed it all. Here are the numbers I am getting from my OBDII reader.

2 codes on OBDII

P0671 - Cylinder 1 Glow Plug Circuit Open
U0155 - Lost Communication with Instrument panel Cluster (IPC) Control
Module

The Instrument Cluster is currently out of the truck, I sent it off to a repair place to have it checked because it wasn't working, turns out that its not the cluster its something else.

DTCFRZRF P0155
Load PCT(%) 27.8
ETC(degrees F) 160
MAP(inHg) 31.9
RPM(/min) 703
VSS(mph) 27
IAT(degrees F) 77
MAF(lb/min) 5.020
Rum Tm(sec) 985
EGR PTC(%) 10.2
EGR ERR(%) 0.0
FLI(%) 0.0
Warmups 1
CLR Dist(mile) 0
Baro(inHg) 29.2
VPWR(V) 13.316
APP D(%) 20.0
APP E(%) 29.4
APP F(%) 18.4

Any info/advice on what to do/check next would be appreciated.

Have you cleaned the EGR Valve? It is easy to remove and clean using a wire brush. You can soak the bottom of the valve in carb cleaner but be careful not to get the electronic coil wet. That is the part under the bell shaped metal cap. Mine has responded to cleaning by getting rid of the surge.

Sticking turbo vanes is a possibility, and they can create a misfire like symptom especially if it's overboosting for the load conditions. Mine would jerk and buck at a certain rpm when going up a slight incline at cruising speed, the boost gauge and rpm would drop for an instant whenever the symptom occured.

What was happening is the boost pressure was blowing back out the intake and it creates a bucking hesitation for a split second, can do this repeatedly when the vanes stick at a certain point and the load conditions are just right.

My turbo was worn and cleaning the vanes only worked for a couple of days, turbo replacement was my ultimate resolution.

Cleaned EGR Valve

I cleaned the EGR Valve and that didn't fix it, Guess I'll pull the turbo and check the vanes to see if they need cleaning. Thanks for all the advice.

The instrument cluster on a 6.0 in on the Can-Bus network like the OBD-II port. If you have a non-functional dash that tests fine, it leads me to think something is interrupting the communications network, or that you have a possible issue with a chaffed harness. If the truck hasn't had any serious service, it may be hard to isolate, but if it's has had one or more repairs to any area that required moving or disconnecting harnesses, I would check those areas for any obvious issues.

Also, there are tests for the GPCM (glow plug control module), I recently tested one on an '02 CA model 7.3 that was popping a glow plug code for #2, tested all the glow plugs, the module, even tried a spare PCM, turned out to be a failed wire in the harness, ran a new circuit and solved the issues with the truck. Easy tests.

The Current Truck (Oct-2013 to Present):

The one I'll miss, (Mar-2009 to Jan-2014):
2000 Excursion XLT 4x4

Problem Solved

Sorry it's taken me so long to post this, but my 2 problems (the surging and instrument cluster) have been fixed. It turns out that I overlooked a fuse that ties into the instrument cluster. I found this out after sending my cluster off to get checked and it was fine. So I got the cluster back and re-installed it and decided to look at the fuses again, I missed fuse #42 which is right under a relay in the fuse box. I changed this fuse and the cluster worked, the next day I decided to go fuel up since I actually could see it was almost empty and the surge was gone. So from what I have figured out if this fuse is blown and the cluster isn't working the truck will have a surge. Blew my mind that one fuse could cause such an issue. Thanks to everyone that has been helpful in my trouble shooting endeavors.
