After glow plug change, 6.0 giving me hell still

Earlier issue

https://www.thedieselgarage.com/forum...d.php?t=147026

Where to start. Glow plugs were changed, problem of cold start and no compression until it warms up persist. Now a entirely new issue from hell. Driving the other day, truck just quit while driving. Engine died. Still had battery power, lights on, radio etc. Once I got pulled off to the side, it would not start. It acts like it is not getting fuel. Turns over good. Battery, starter and alternator are good. It's throwing a P2285 code (ICP??). I think this is behind my understanding to repair. It's sitting at dealership. And I think they want to bend me over. I brought up the P2285 code and suggested the cheaper route of just replacing the sensor. They want to pressure test (3 different pressure tests to be exact) and look at the high pressure oil pump. Thousands of dollars of labor from what I can estimate.

Is there anything I can do myself or insist they do first before we go this route? I mean the cold hard start issue was a pain in the ***, but at least before dealership changed the glow plugs, once started, it ran trouble free.

Need answers / suggestions fast

Unplug the ICP and see if it starts. Be very helpful if you put info about the truck in your signature. Help us, help you.

You need a scangauge 2. Spend the money, program the X-gauges and get some info until you do this you are at the mercy of the dealer.

If it doesn't see 500 psi of HIgh pressure oil it will not start.

Since you got a code start there. It could be the FICM but HPOP system is your starting point.

Can the ICP sensor be the culprit, as in not sending signal for 500 psi?

No, it will be the HPOP if the ICP shows less than 500 psi. The ICP is good or it is not, no middle ground.

Unplug it and try start it if it runs it's the ICP sensor if not you have a HPO problem.

I'm a ******* when it comes to engines. What tools are needed to accomplish this.

ICP sensor on your 05' yr model sticks out the top of the passenger side valve cover, no tools needed to just unplug it. Sensor can also be replaced without valve cover removal.

Low and high pressure oil supply in these engines go hand in hand. If you have low pressure oil supply problems, then you will automatically have a high pressure oil problem too.

Check if your engine oil gauge in the dashboard cluster moves during extended cranking to start the engine. If it does move upward, then thats a good thing, if it dosen't move then you have bigger issues that we'll avoid going into right now.

If the oil gauge does move, then you likely have a high pressure internal oil leak somewhere in the high pressure oil system.

With a ScangaugeII you can read most all the critical info needed to start the engine, like ICP, IPR, FICM voltages, FICM sync and so on. The only thing you can't read is fuel pressure, that requires tapping in with a gauge or mounting one up permanently like some of us have.

Well. It's at the dealership. They are now saying IPR needs replaced and the IPC is alright. I get the feeling they are just "throwing parts" at it. And I still find it interesting that it was operating fine, save for the cold starts) until they changed the glow plugs. I'm not mechanically inclined, so I can't draw a line to the problem now and glow plugs being changed. However, I do not believe in coincidence.
