Homemade coolant filter system

So I decided to make my own coolant filtration system for my 06. I bought the coolant filter base and filter from Napa. I have bought most of the brass stuff: valves, hose fittings. What my questions are is on the pipe fittings that I need to use. I can buy brass fittings but that would be very expensive. So I have found galvanized fittings but I am concerned about the dissimalar metal and getting galvanic corrosion. Has anyone seen this or have any experience with putting one of these systems together? Should I use brass, galvanized, or find black iron fittings? The next question I have is I have heard that we should use distilled water in the 6.0l, but will soft water work? I have a well that is neutalized then softened. Will soft water work the same as distilled water in our trucks? When I am done I will post pictures of the install.

Stick with distilled... Softened water has a high dissolved particle # higher than normal well water. And well water will be higher than your local city water, stick with a couple of gallons of distilled, your goal in the filtration system is to keep stuff out of your cooling system.

what parts are you wanting to go galvinized on? If it is just the T's go to O'reilys or Napa grab the plastic generic ones... that is what came with my kit... (since when dose ford approve parts made in china)?

i was going to use galvanized for the elbows and close nipples. These are what I am using to attach the valves to the filter base.

I am unfamiliar with the effects that galvanized will have on our cooling system... so I will leave that for someone more knowlageble than myself...

Thanks, I know what it does in straight water systems, just not with this coolant.

I like being on the safe side. These engines aren't cheap. I would go with brass, stainless or machined aluminum. That is why I think the kit from dieselsite is worth the money. How much is your time worth?? I consider mine to be valuable and the older you get the more it is worth.

Well if you cant afford 110 bucks for the complete kit, expensive fittings shouldnt be a big deal since your trying to save money.
