I have, what I think, is a power steering leak on an 06 250 6.0 with 50k. The fitting in between the brake fluid reservoir and degas bottle has a leak and I am low on power steering fluid. Any suggestions on how to fix? What is the best way to get into that area? Anything else I need to know before I start? Thanks GD
You need to buy the short metal fitting with a new seal. Mine had the same leak. There is a TSB on this, but I dont have the number. The dealer will likely know what part you need it is right off the hydroboost unit and has a teflon type seal that gets messed up if not put on right.
Ford will only pay if it is still under the 3/36 warranty. The part was about 60.00. Once you change it just refill the PS fluid and cycle the wheel and pump brakes to get all the air out. I did not have any problems with air. You will need to loosen the bolts for the Degas tank and remove the air filter to make it easier to install. Only took about 30 Min.
It is not an oring. It is a teflon type seal with square edges. If it has been leaking under high pressure the sealing surface is probably not good. It was not recommended to just replace the seal when I did mine.
kwissman, did you replace the metal hose from the hydroboost unit or the metal/rubber hose that goes from the leaking fitting down near the ps resivoir?
I flushed my system and refilled with Mercon V synthetic atf and added a Magnefine tranny filter on the return line. Been over a year now and zero probs.
