5.9 or 6.7??

I am a 5.9 guy. I have had several. I have been looking at 2011 6.7 dodge. I need a owners opinion on how they like them compared to the 5.9 high Output of the past.. I am a cummins owner of 12 valve-Commonrail. I am very hesitant on trading of my megacab for this motor soo any clarification would help alot. thanks

The 5.9L has a great reputation and is a awesome motor. In stock for the 6.7L with the 68RFE 6-Spd auto is a great tow rig. The 07.5-08s had alot of emission issues but I think the newer 2010-2011s are doing much better. There are guys that have no problems and guys that have had problems, I am sure the 5.9 had the same growing pains in the past. I am very happen with my 6.7L, it has its ups and down but so did my 01 24v. The 6.7 is not as capable with mileage but can be close with the right mods. If your 5.9 does what you need I would be hesitant to trade with the price of the newer trucks. Stock to Stock looking at towing I would say the 6.7L would be a better tow rig right out the box. When in comes to emissions my bets would be on the 5.9L so its a trade off. Both a great engines are either of them perfect no, but what is.

I had a 03 2500 5.9 305 HP 6 speed manual no problems but ball joints and u-joints with 60000 miles on trade in. I had a 07 2500 with 6.7 305 HP had ball joints u-joints turbo d.p.f. cat- convert clutch e.c.m with 99000 miles on trade. My current 2010 2500 6 speed automatic had no problems until I started getting recalls a few weeks ago for stupid stuff now my c.e.l is stuck on because of a 0 2 sensor that they say is not covered under warranty at 37665 miles . Recalls power steering cap hvac in dash e.g.r e.c.m reflash ignition cycle reflash. But I do like the truck!

2010 6.7 cummins 4x4 crew cab short bed 6 speed auto 4:10 gears stock for now. Draw tite brake controller

I had the 5.9 ho and now have the 6.7 with the 6 speed auto i would say 6.7 once you lose a few extra parts, it is just like a big bore 5.9 with a better tranny.

I recently test drove a 2011 2500 Crewcab 4x4 Shortbed and I was impressed with the Power and Torque of the 6.7 and the Ride Quality of the Truck, I am very interested in it, I had a 06 5.9 and it was great on Fuel but the New Trucks are Awesome, I have a 08 F450 6.4 now and I am ready to get rid of it, The Fuel Mileage sucks big time, The Ride is nice but I am having some other issues as well, not with the Truck though, I am leaning very hard to a New One. I may put the F450 up For Sale here soon. I would Love to get back in a Cummins Diesel! I am done with the Fords!

As said above if you go with the 6.7, you'll be just as pleased with it after a few parts fall out by accident. Mine personally hasn't given me a single issue in over 30k miles after I switched to XRT.
