QUOTE=Johnp3;1078983]I have an LMM it has a oil use percentage, I change it when the computer gets to around 50%, I add a quart of ATF, this time it was about 20 miles from home when I added it, I have about 68,000 Kilometers on it and change it spring and fall. It is in the shop right now with the plug out and the filter punched.
I have not used any oil. and the level does not go down any. I use rotella 1540 dyno My experience with Royal purple is that it is overpriced for what you get and if I am going to use synthetic Valvoline is my choice.
I have been a mechanic for a lot of years and changing oil is the cheapest overhaul you will not need.
Getting extra life from oil, synthetics in my experience, does not work![/QUOTE]
my thoughts exactly. if i can extend the life of my truck by doing a $45 oil change every 4000 miles, then its well worth it. my question has always been, with oil sampling, when you see a problem in the test, like too much metal wear, the damage is already done. so your test has just shown you that you are headed for an overhaul. why push it to save a couple of bucks.
