Is that a synthetic if it how often between changes? I don't drive hard and I have 93000 on Blue now and plan putting some miles on pulling pretty good loads just want to get as much life out of the engine as possible.

I have an LMM it has a oil use percentage, I change it when the computer gets to around 50%, I add a quart of ATF, this time it was about 20 miles from home when I added it, I have about 68,000 Kilometers on it and change it spring and fall. It is in the shop right now with the plug out and the filter punched.
I have not used any oil. and the level does not go down any. I use rotella 1540 dyno My experience with Royal purple is that it is overpriced for what you get and if I am going to use synthetic Valvoline is my choice.
I have been a mechanic for a lot of years and changing oil is the cheapest overhaul you will not need.
Getting extra life from oil, synthetics in my experience, does not work!

my thoughts exactly. if i can extend the life of my truck by doing a $45 oil change every 4000 miles, then its well worth it. my question has always been, with oil sampling, when you see a problem in the test, like too much metal wear, the damage is already done. so your test has just shown you that you are headed for an overhaul. why push it to save a couple of bucks.

I worked on Class eights, and we had customers that did the synthetic oil experiment, with the N14's and it was a failure, we had customers that did oil changes early and others that got every mile out of the oil. The ones that did it early, got a million four Kilometers out of there motors and the ones that ran the oil to the limit got 750,000. These trucks ran 22 hours a day pulling 144,000LBS over two mountains, two drivers doing a trip a day.
Oil is the life blood of the motor, and is now used as the major coolant, as well as the lubricant. I will be shortening the mileage I drive between oil changes, I was busy and let it slide to 43%. I think changed at 55% to 60 would be better. I notice the percentage does not drop on mileage just cold starts, and pulls, I do a lot of long drives.
Need new drain pan, my fuel tank end cap, the oil just jumps a foot and out.
