I now have 80 k on my 3500 i have a tranny issue when i pull out it shutters.
it has been getting worse and when i have the 5th wheel in tow it is worse.
it use to be it would shutter if i pulled out hard not it is even if i pull out easy with the trailer. and i had it start to shutter with a load in 6th going up a slite hill the RPM was at 1600 and it started to shutter so i quickly droped it down to 4th. i think it is the fwd. clutches.

Did yours shutter when pulling out? most times if i cannt keep it above 1600 to 1700 rpm i will drop a gear. i found that i get better MPG that way any way. mine has been shuttering when i pull out for a while but only if i pull out hard. now it is doing even if i try to pull out easy.

No it did not "shutter" but at the slightest accelaration in 5th or 6th gear it would drop 1 or 2 gears and them sometimes hunt for a gear back and forth. To get it to up shift back up would have to cruise steady or even let off the throttle and coast a bit so it would up shift. When it got real bad it would not up shift to 6th unless I got it up to 80mph then let off the throttle.

I knew I should have went with a hand shaker, every truck I buy I say get a stick and every time i get the auto cause the wife says she wants to be able to tow the camper in a pinch. I checked the bord and did not hear any real issues with the 68 RFE so thought i was good. Oh well any one want a truck.

Soot, I been reading every thing i can find about the 68RFE and the only thing i see is that the O/D clutches will go out if you lug it with a load in 5th or 6th. any other problems have been caused by People running lots of HP and torque through them. But I realy think with what i read about the AS68RC
tranny and them bumping up to 800 /FP torque that tranny should be in the 3500 truck also and the 68 RFE should be a 2500 tranny. Oh well i will be getting the Extreme Duty RAM 68 Super Master Combo Kit from www.transmissioncenter.net and i will build it myself.

Ya i have heard of the problems so to speak. If i have the cash flow i will pay cash for extra warranty if not i will finance. But i will not keep this truck unless it has warranty lol I drive way to much and half the miles are empty and they are all way to abusive miles city/highway heavy/light but i always use the tow/haul mode and turn exhaust brake on except on slick roads learnt my lesson cleaned my shorts afterwards. My truck will 1 of a few trucks out there that are beat on a daily basis but well maintained i dont have a light right foot. I have read very little on theat other tranny you speak of as this is my first auto in a diesel...is that AS68RC in CC models?
