Reseting Oil change message

I know how to reset the overhead oil change indicator( key on, press "go pedal" 3 times slowly within 10 seconds). The question I have is: When changing oil before message shows up and you reset the indicator, is it actually resetting or do you have to wait until the message shows up? I just reset it when I know its not time yet.

Seems like if you reset it before it shows the message, its not really resetting. I say that because sometimes the message comes up quite early with out a real change in driving habits(seems my foot is on the heavy side)
Now at 114,000 miles, and never had a dpf plugging warning

Yea I've been resetting mine to. Just wondering if the reset only works after the message shows up to start the oil usage recalculation process.

I bet your right, clearing it with it not on may not do anything until the reminder is set then you can clear it.

I believe there has been a time or two that I have changed the oil in mine prior to the overhead light coming on, going through the clearing steps anyway, and it stayed off until needed. It's weird because you don't know if you are really doing anything, but I do think it worked for me.
