Quality Time with the 6.7L?

So after a week long camping trip with the 6.7L and Toyhauler it was due for some maintenance. Oh, and the bezel that holds the controls for windows and door locks broke on the trip.

So at 67,654 miles. Here is what went down today.

Oil Change and New Fleetguard LF16035 Lube Filter, Nothing to exciting yet eh? Next up was the CCV Filter, It has 8 8mm bolts you take them out, remove oil cap and disconnect one CCV hose and just pull out the old and seat the new on into place, reconnect CCV hose and tighten the 8 bolts back in. Nothing Hard about that either. Since I change my Fuel filter every 10k it was also time for a fuel filter, and with the Air Dog II 100 it is really quick just drain the water separator, spin the old filter off and the new one back on, the easiest thing yet? Prolly so. After this I ran after the door bezel since they called and said it was in. I also had them give me a new belt thinking that it was time for a new one. I get home, after about an hour of tugging a pulling I finally got the old belt out. Here is where it gets interesting, to put the new belt on there is an exact procedure you have to do or it will not work, Look for sticky soon. Long story short, I spent close to 2 hours to get the belt back on. I also have the TSB for Belt squeak I will scan and post. Then came the easiest thing I had to do was to install the new control bezel. Wow Im tired again just typing all that.

Alright guys,

I am having a hard time figuring this one out. The truck has a weird rattle now, It started Thursday. It only happens in reverse with my foot on the brake. It sounds like metal bouncing, I will try an post a video of it in the morning. I am thinking Idler pulley or Tensor pulley but I am not certain as I would expect that to make the noise all the time not just in one gear. If it does it in drive I cannot hear it near as loud as in reverse. Here is the real kicker, it almost always does it cold, but is hit and miss hot, then it will just quit. I talked with Eazydeezy for some time tonight an neither of us can shed any light on it. I have been on top of it under it and at every side I can squeeze my fat into I have jacked the front drivers side tire up and bearing play for that wheel is what I would consider except able. Dom, I appreciate your time tonight, thanks for calling me back! As most of you know I work my truck hard as in towing it, but it is also my daily driver. I take pride in keeping her in great shape and will prolly not sleep well until I figure this out. Yes I obsess over little things but bottom line, it should not rattle so this has me stumped I have also thought water pump but it is not leaking. I have checked all the fluids. Im lost.

For your rattle noise, check for any loose heat shields on exhaust system. I have had that same problem on another vehicle, only doing it in reverse. Turned out it was a loose heat shield rattling. Hopefully its that simple for you.

Oh yea, I also had to replaced my bezel too. I did super glue at first and it lasted for about a year, then I replaced it.

Replaced the Idler and Tensionor pulleys and now have an Sinister EGR Cooler Delete ordered. Best I can tell it was/is several things. But it sounds good now the tensionor pulley and idler were not in good shape and needed to be replaced any how but as Mike said I have to believe the biggest noise was a heat shield from the EGR Cooler so it is getting evicted. Now only if Sootbandit would answer his phone. I need to pick his brain.

On and if you remove the air box the tensionor pulley is very easy to remove and replace.

Well I evicted the EGR cooler today and it was pretty straight forward, I will say this. a good 1/4 ratchet would be very handy, and well after today I do not consider my Crapsman 1/4 ratchet to be good in any way. Also a 15mm crowsfoot is a blessing Im glad I had one here. Other than that I did open the bleeder on the standpipe for the coolant and it bleed so fast that way! overall I had 2 hours in it and washed the truck while it came up to operating temp and checked for any leaks both coolant and exhaust.

Tomorrow is going to be a rough day for me, as I will be saying good bye to my 07. It is with a heavy heart that I say it was coming and I knew it. The bottom line is that with the drama coming down the pike with deleted trucks I do not care to have one anymore. tonight I traded her off on a shiny new black 2012. I love the amenities of the new rig and the larger cab, I am not going to be a fan of the quite sound but I simply want this to happen on my terms and not somebody else's. Will I miss MY 2007.5 6.7 HELL YES, are greener days ahead yeap. I look forward to being a part of the 6.7L High Output crowd. I sorta feel I gave up on it, but times change and what is done is done. Thanks to TDG I got to enjoy my first new to me diesel for 33k of the 69k. Bottom line is the deal was right and I could have walked away with mine for now but I did not want things that are coming with the 2013 MY. Who knows, in time with the 2012 I may venture back to the dark side, but for now I am going to enjoy a new truck with a warranty. With the ever evolving diesel world I can only hope companies like H&S and Smarty will prevail. Tomorrow she will go back to stock and off to a different home.

Neel, WOW, Now you really be behind in mileage compared to me at 140,000

There is nothing like having a warranty for awhile and of course that "new car smell" to enjoy. How is the new one equipped? Enjoy and may the 07.5 have a good life with its new owner. We will all be waiting for your reports on the new rig.

I am actually considering/thinking about waiting for the 2013 MY. Yea it uses DEF but looks like a trade off for better mpg and having a factory front axle disconnect adds another ~1 mpg. And the Hp goes up another 20 to 370 with the 68rfe in the 2500.
