Any reason not to trade in on an 08 6.7?

Wondering if theres any reason I shouldnt trade in my 5.9 for the 6.7.

My 5.9 is a 2002 24v automatic trans with somewhere around 120k mileage off hand, I'd have to look for a real value. Its an ext cab, all stock and have been satisfied with it. I've done most the maintenance that I can by myself as I prefer it that way since im a DIYer.

The 6.7 2008 6speed manual 75k miles tow package, eb and light load button? Quad cab long bed. Very nice truck, very clean. Never driven the 6.7 before and was quite impressed, loved the six speed and 4wd worked great. Only thing I noticed was after testing the EB switch and using the EB there was a stream of smoke coming from under the hood passenger side.

What could cause the smoke?

Are these trucks easy to do most things on it easy or slightly different than the older trucks?

I just dont want to end up with trade in remorse as I love my 24valve.

Any help appreciated

The 08 kelly blue books excellent at 31300 and the dealers selling at just under 30.

Whats the bluetec diesel decal for?

Anyone have good experiences trading in when they still owe money on their vehicle? Ive never traded a truck in before.

Thanks guys.

Bluetec is for the exhaust system, it has a Nox Filter a Catalytic Converter and a DPF or Diesel Particulate filter.
For what it is worth the ability of modifying these exhaust systems is going away rather quickly with the current EPA ordeal and diesel performance companies.
Now am I saying they are a bad truck, absolutely not. I traded my 07.5 in on my 12 and like both trucks, I still miss my 07.5 but timing was right to get a 12. With a stock 6.7L I have seen as low as 10mpgs ( Both towing and city driving) I know that Dodgefarmer has had nothing but good luck with his 07.5 and still has it with (What Mike) about 150k on it now? The 6.7L does not like a lot of idle time and it will cause the exhaust system to go into more regen cycles where it burns off the soot collected in the DPF. The technology has been out for about 6 years now in the light duty diesel world so I will say having a stock truck again ( last one was deleted until I traded it and it went back to stock) is not as "bad" as I thought it was going to be. The 6.7 also has an external EGR system unlike the 04.5+ truck that has the egr ground into the cam shaft. So.

If you want to mod it, it may not be for you.
If you want a diesel that gets 18+ city MPG (some do most dont) it may not be for you.

If you want a truck in stock form that IMHO can out pull a 5.9CR all day it may be for you.
If you want a better auto trans than what is in the 5.8CR ( in stock form) it may be for you.

Note: I have no idea how much you already know about the 6.7 just some background info that I learned during my last rig. I have to tell you I have been very please with the 6.7L from day one of owning one, but the growing pains made it hard at time but I believe now that should be a good reliable rig!. If it was me I would want a truck that had not previously been deleted so do your homework and look for the signs.

It should not do this, the Factory turbo is a VGT or Variable Geometry Turbo and allows for the ecm to control the veins of it to act as an exhaust brake. It is also liquid cooled (still has an oil line) so I would wonder what would cause it to smoke only after the EB was engaged. Also I traded an 01 24v CTD for my first 6.7L and I thought the world as I knew it had ended pretty soon you will make the new truck yours and it wont matter. I thought the same thing about traded my 07.5 for 12 and while I had a lot of blood sweat and tear into building that truck like it is, well Thanks EPA. As for the 12, well its a whole new ball game can't wait to see where the ride take me! Trading trucks is hard to say as my 07.5 sold in 3 days at the dealer I traded it in at. Find out what its worth pick a number you can live with and don't budge off it. I almost walked away from buying the 12 3 or 4 times until the deal was right, you owe them nothing make them work for your hard earned dollar!

Neel...I am at 142k now.
The smoking under the hood when using the EB is a new one on me. What color is the smoke that you see? Off the top of my head could it be an exhaust leak that only shows up during EB since the back pressure will be at its highest? The other thought is somehow the turbo oil seal is leaking under EB pressure, but then that oil would be pushed into the exhaust or intake so thats probably not it (just as I'm typing )
I am a firm believer that as long as the 6.7 is "worked" and not driven daily in city stop-n-go traffic you will like it. That being said the 6.7 does not get the mpg that the 5.9 gets, but I'll will give that up for the extra stock vs stock towing capability.
The EB makes towing on the mountain grades non stressful. I tow every summer my 5er,(12k lbs) over grades topping out at 10% grades with hairpin turns posted at 15-20mph on curves, and either you wouldn't want to drive an faster going up and you just let the EB do its job going down.

The smoke had a blue tint to it, very puzzling.

Ah, yeah I looked under the truck and saw all the boxes on the muffler for everything.

Neel- I know nothing of them yet, until the little bit discussed in this thread. Browsed through the first 20 pages and the last 20 looking for any problem threads.

The fuel mileage would be great as would the towing capacity, but fortunately I did find an 03 with great mileage and everything that I want on a dodge so far.

Thanks for the info guys.

It allow for the full movement of the variable vanes in turbo which keep carbon/soot from building up and causing the vanes to stick. Its not necessary to keep on "all" the time, but I activate them at least everyother day so it does a couple of EB actions. Or leave it on if you like the sound!

This is something I have forgot about with the new truck... I may give it a go for every couple of days. Right now my fist impression is less regens on the 12s but that could be as old as the J35 Recall.

Found a better one 3500 EB actually works the way it should. Automatic as well. Anything to look for on the automatics?

Anyone know the cost to replace trim pieces or the passenger mirror?
