High Idle Question

In the 5.9 CR section we have been talking about the high idle function in our trucks. Alot say that with the most up to date smarty you can set your cruise controll and then bring the rpms up no mater what the temp. How ever this does not seem to work in a manual trans truck. Some one mentioned that the 6.7 guys were grounding a wire somewhere and that makes it work. Anyone know anything about that??

Mastercaster is the man that needs to see this thread. But yes there is a wire somewhere under the hood right in behind the clutch somewhere in the firewall. Does that narrow it down for you. (HAHA). He will see it, and let you know for sure.

i've got that info somewhere...just need to find it. but, no you don't have the wire to ground like we do on the 6.7. you have to jumper a pin on the ecm. i am pretty sure it's #22. and yes, you will be able to run it through the cruise control as we do. let me look for the specifics, and i'll jump back on here with them.

you do have to ground pin#22 on your ecm. i know this works for the '05-'07 models. not positive about the '04. if you can get your dealer to enable it for free then it's worth trying anyway. the pigtail should run less than $10.

you need to install a pigtail on pin #22 on your ecm. Part #3824810 from your Cummins dealer.

Undo the ECM connector from the ECM. Use a paper clip, push it through PIN #22 from the engine side to get the orange rubber plug out. Remove the nut from the ground, You'll see the ground right next to the where the connector plugs into the ECM. connect some extra wire to the pigtail you bought, and a ring terminal. Connect the ring terminal to the other side. Push the pin on the cummins part into port #22 on ECM wire harness. Should be to the right of a black wire on the connector. ground the ring terminal. have your dealer enable the "fast" or "high" idle feature.

sweet!! good to hear. enjoy it. i use mine all of the time. heats things up much faster in the cool months, and keeps the a/c nice and cold in the hot months when idling. not to mention, decreasing or eliminating the soot and wet stacking.

I'm years behind you all but I've got high idle that works like a dream...
http://mopar.mopar1973man.com/tips/c.../high-idle.htm

But I know there is some serious differences between my truck and yours but the high idle function might be easy to fool and kick on when you want it... But who knows...
