Oil change required light

I changed the factory oil out at about 600 miles for some Rotella. Now I got the "Oil change required" light on. I checked the oil and it is black but still full. Should I reset this indiator and move on? I've been on a couple short trips along with stop and go traffic. I shouldn't need another change so soon should I? It's got less than 1500 miles on it.

Mine came on at about 3900 miles the first time and I've been pretty hard on the truck, hot rodding around town and 80+ on the interestate 45 miles at a time twice a day.

Who knows with your engine being a newer engine and a EGR engine. I'd change it just to be safe. Shorter oil change intervuls are how you are going to get a EGR engine to last long.

I do know the EGR engines get there oil contaminated faster because of the exhaust gases being re-introduced to the combustion chamber.

My dealer service dept said to reset it after I took it to them. Also, is there a way to set your change light interval setting? I've been looking around in the owners manual but I can't find anything.

Thanks.

the trucks have a service minder similar to what GM had(has). It depends on your driving habits and mileage and so forth. I talked to star center and they said that have seen this problem and are testing some trucks to see if the oil is really needing to be changed or if the oil is really broken down. More than likely it'll be a flash update to change the perameters. This information was "off the record" so we'll have to wait and see. Mine came on about 1900 miles and I just reset the minder. It's in the owners manual on how to do it.

Thanks. I reset it per my dealer service recommendations. I was just wondering if there was a perameter to make the reminder happen every 5k instead of 1500.

I hauled a 1966 M151 Jeep to Auburn, AL from Lexington, KY. a few weeks ago.......traveled 934 miles in 15 hours. Upon getting back home, I decided I'd change the oil & filter at 3,759 miles. I never had the "change engine oil" light come on. My engine hours were 92, so I was averaging 40.85 mph the first oil change. (and 15 hour "hot" 934 mile engine oil drains out nicely, too.) :grd

Why not just ignore the notification and change the oil every 6000 miles? It's a waste of money to rely on a computer generated oil interval message. Reset the thing when it comes on and change the oil when you want to.
