2008 CTD 6.7L 2500 MEGACAB mileage?

I had the 2007.7 CTD megacab and got spooked when diesel went to $3.95. I traded for a 2008 5.7L megacab - the beating wasn't too bad. NUTS! It gets 13mpg to the CTD 16.5 and 16.8 by 4400 miles- calc'd at the pump - those overheads are - uh, pretty. So for megacabs - what are ya'll getting empty and towing? Any regen problems (whatever those are), I want to get this REAL pretty red CTD as the 5.7L only gets 400 miles per 34 gallon tank and the 2007.5 I had was getting 500 - I'm paying about the same for the mileage. The beating I'll take - not really worth it! But like the icon : it keeps poking me. Thanks, Ed

Thanks Sabbath5.9 - I am in a confused state! I had the 2500 6.7L CTD megacab and thought 16.5 mpg was horrible as the prices rocketed. I traded it for the 5.7L HEMI thinking I would get 18mpg and pay less for gas. BUT - it gets 13mpg. I'm guessing that the 2008 6.7L CTD megacabs are getting 16.5 - any megacabs getting better? They'll skin me on a trade from the 5.7HEMI to the 6.7CTD, but it is SO much more truck - the CTD that is. mo'better explanation? ed

better.. ok the cummins isn't brokin all the way in yet. thats why your getting 16.7's mpg.. couple things to remember.. 16.7 isnt that bad for a non broken in motor. the more miles the better mpg.. there are also mods you can do to the truck. Such as get rid of the whole emissions process.. the biggest mpg i've heard with the regen delete was 28mpg in the 6.7.. a gas motor will always get the same.. maybe 2-3 more if you do stupid work to them.. the 5.7's aren't as reilable.. i know plenty of guys wanting to get rid of them. in my 5.9 gasser im getting 12mpg... im getting an 05 cummins because its alot better then any other motor out there.. new wise.. the 6.7 to me is just a waste of motor because you have regen problems.. you get 100% full filter warning all the time, alot of reports on turbos. couple of injectors. so far out of all the new trucks out there.. 2008 im stating. its a tie between the cummins and the duramax.. ok back to the 6.7... you want to tow with it.. and im sure you want it to be realible.. get these things and you'll see an increase in mpg and power... regen delete, Cold air intake, edge juice.

Yes cocotte - beating that dead horse - again. And WHITEPOWERstrok I was thinking the HEMI would give better mileage just driving around and found I was very wrong. EXPENSIVE to trade back but I just got a nice 2008 2500 CTD 4x2 SLT MEGACAB. That Cummins will pull this travel trailer now! You guys are WAY over my head with the mods - thanks for all the info though. I'm looking forward to just enjoying the new CTD. Thanks, Ed

That is 0-60 in 10 minutes and coasting uphill. The reality is about 19 highway and 15-16 town. When I sit and idle a lot it is down to 12-13. Its the nature of the beast.
