to trade or not to trade?!?!?

I currently own a 6 leaker and so far this year it's been in the shop every month since january so 5 for 5 now!!! I'm just getting tired of having to do my regular truck payment PLUS the extra that it might cost me at the dealer.

So now i think it's time to shop. I am not particular to any brand name as long as the price is right and it's not going to be in the shop every month. My local Dodge dealer has an 08 SLT 2500 diesel with just about everything in there stickered at 57000(C) selling for 41500(C) and it's got me really interested!!!

My question(s) is....how reliable are these new engines compared to the 6 leaker??? What has been going wrong or not with it??? How's fuel mileage compare??? Are they just as unreliable as the 6 leaker??? How often should I expect to be in the shop with this thing??? Is an oil change just as expensive also???

I'm gonna keep reading through here but some good feed back would be greatly appreciated!!!

Rock

41,500 sounds like a lot for a 2500. Six months ago I bought an 08, 3500SLT, 4x4, QG, Dually for 35,000 plus TTL. MSRP was 49965. I like the truck, no problems.

Figure the exchange rate based on what he paid. He seems to have gotten a good deal.

Life changes, so roll with it, not against it.

yeah i think so too. The exchange is one and i'm pretty sure we pay more for it anyways regardless of the exchange!!!

Sorry, I didn't catch the (C) for Canada. I live down on the Gulf of Mexico. We don't speak Canadian.

I traded my 6L for the 6.7 a couple months ago. Dealer gave me 10k for my old POS truck (4th engine in 122k). I got my new one for trade + 22k, so 32k total. The only "problem" I have had out of it so far is a check engine light because I deleted the EGR system with about 600 miles on it. But that's self-inflicted. I did change the oil for the first time at 2500 miles and had a 6.5% fuel dilution on the oil analysis. I'm hoping it was because of the dealer shuffling it around the lot a bunch before I bought it. Had no other problems so far, we'll see how it holds up.

08 6.7 QC SB 4x4 "hand-shaker" edition, De-Badged, EGR Delete, TTT Mirrors, Auto Exhaust Brake, etc.
All details and instructions --> www.CarboniteCummins.com

Successfully blew up three 6.0s before moving up in the food chain.

Well i'm not on a new engine yet but you can almost say it is new with all the parts they replaced in there. I am seriously considering the switch but i'm still unsure about it. Having the truck in the shop for me it's down time and lost of money as this is a work truck. I constantly pull a load (2 place trailer with 2 ATV's) and a diesel seem to be the way to go!!! As far as warranty goes, is Dodge pretty good with it??? I know Ford is not bad but like i said it's down time for me that i can't afford!!!

I've got 18,900 miles on my 6.7 with no problems so far. Oil changes are probably about the same It takes about 3 1/2 gallons so figure that in but any diesel will take alot. I really like my new truck tows' great and drives great so far.
