Unhappy My first Problem

After 53,300 trouble free miles I have My first one

My water pump started leaking.

Took it to the dealer for warrantee fix. They said that this is the first water pump they have seen go bad on a 6.7 (seal is leaking). I was to leave in two days with my 5er trailer to the coast and they said they would put a rush on it.

It turns out that there was no pump any where on the west coast for the 6.7 as it is a different part number then for the 5.9 Hopefully it gets here tommorow am (it is being air freighted overnight fom utah) If i get out of here it is

UPDATE

I am not leaving today Water pump did not make it in this morning, dealer missed the cutoff time due to time zones to get order placed for shipping yesterday.
As a side note service manager told me another customer came in today with the same problem (do I get the prize for being the first) . customer was told that he would have to wait awhile as he sold me the only waterpump he could find.

6.7 owners start watching for water pump leaks

Not yet, as mine is the 1st they have seen. I will ask to look at the old one if it hasn't been returned for warrantee claim yet. As far as I know it is just the seal as I could not hear any bearing noise. If I find out I will post it here.

My will have to be next week. Will have a extra for the delay.

I would venture to say that the pump will be returned for investigation. But if you pick the truck up promptly after repair, then you should be able to check it out. Keep us posted!!!

Thats what I am planning. As soon as the pump hits the dealer he is pulling a mechanic to jump right on my truck, needs 2-3 hrs to complete repair and I will pick it up right away.
If it wasn't under warrantee I would do it myself in our farm shop.

Bad news

Dealer called with bad news. Said the water pump arrived but when they opened the box it looked like UPS overnight air freight just dropped the pump out of the plane into the dealer's lot, the impeller(plastic) was busted. Not getting out of town this week

I found out the other customer who came in after me had only around 30,000 miles.
Found out the differences between the 5.9 and 6.7 waterpumps are the 6.7 has a smaller pulley, different pitch to vanes and more vanes.

All they can tell me is cummins is releasing a batch of pumps to Chrysler and until Chy. gets it into the "system" the dealer cannot get a time of delivery.
I told the service rep to hold the pump so I can look at it. Will try to post a picture here whenever that happens
