Turbo replacement concerns

My 08 2500 with 17k miles has been in a couple times for check engine lights. First time they performed software updates. The second time they are replacing the turbo. Is there anything I should be doing aside from just continuing to take it back each time I get a light? Should I be worried about the updates they performed or the new turbo they are putting on?

Once the warranty expires I plan on both deletes.

Do you have your EGR unplugged? It will trigger a code and you will loose a little power but it will increase your mileage and extend the life of your turbo substantially.

My truck is totally stock. I have not made any mods.

Would unplugging the EGR void warranty? Could I easily determine the codes thrown for the EGR unplug and others that might need attention?

I know you said you wanted to wait till warranty expires BUT i will say again you will not be dissapointed and will never go back again for a turbo issue or egr issue IF you do the deletes now im coming up on 40k since deletes were done and ZERO issues i do all my maintenance myself on my truck. You will love your truck even more and your truck will love you more also plus if you are worried bout warranty as long as you dont put a programmer on or chip or tuner they can not void your warranty over the exhaust as long as you put it back to stock before you go in for warranty BUT i will say it again you wont have to go back in again. any questions just ask. not trying to twist your arm into doing the deletes but if you want the best out of your truck you will HIGHLY consider doing this early. i was really concerned just like you when my truck started having turbo issues at 22k and egr codes etc....not going to lie i was almost half tempted to strike a match in the seat but now im happy as can be Good Luck wit whatever you decide to do

Thanks Soot. That's excellent info. I'll talk to some local moonlighting mechanics about these potential deletes and get their 2 cents also. I sure would like the extra power and lack of problems.

I wish everyone that had concerns could just borrow a modded 6.7 to actually get the seat of the pants that needed it cause i would bet a cold case of w.e. you drink that you would try to steal my truck . Like you said you hit it on the head all those headaches would be gone for good and you get extra power better mileage and the heads turn when they hear the EB come on in a straight piped 6.7

I had EGR codes too and they replaced my control valve and had to clean my cooler About the deletes they make a stelth kit that you can put in it goes under the intake valve and blocks the prot off I paid $25 for mine and that should not throw a code unpluging it will and then you will not know if something else goes wrong
