Perform Service message

FYI
Recently at 67500 miles my overhead monitor lit up saying "perform service". According to the manual that means the egr is supposed to be cleaned. In CA, since it is emmision related the dealer is required to perform this service at no charge. I guess it is strictly a mileage issue as to when it shows the warning. I also scanned it for codes, just to be sure and none showed up.

Ask the dealer about it and was told they never do it unless there was an issue, they don't think its worth the risk. They felt since the egr has to be completly removed and opened up for cleaning the risk of causing a leak or other problem was not worth it.
Told to just delete the message. Turn ignition on, step on brake pedal 2 times and then press on throttle 2 times with in 10 seconds and its off.

Sorry for the long post but wanted to let others know.

There is no risk to doing the cleaning as long as you replace the gaskets. we do the cleaning all the time. Even if you do not do the cleaning you need to replace your CCV filter. If you do not replace the filter it can cause a Check engine light and performance issues.

That just means that you drive it and use it like it is designed to be.
