2010 Ram

Hello all. I have a 2008 F-250 and I have been plagued with coolant system issues. I took a look at the new 2010 Ram today. I like what I see. I wasn't able to drive it cause it is snowing here. N. Texas. I think the dealer was afraid. I know many of yall have the new 6.7L. My questions are what kind of milage can I get from this in stock form? What if any are the known issues with this powertrain? Can it be tuned later on if I decide? I read somewhere that they can't be IDK. Any info would be great!!

Thanks

Deano

You will def get better fuel mileage than your ford from wat i have been hearing ford owners complaing bout i dont wanna give ya a fake number so take it however you want. As of right now now you cannot tune them but companys have already got stuff in the wrks so you can run tuners on them real soon. The egr is the killer of these motors its not the dpf ite EGR system doing wat the 6.0 ford did when they introduced it on there trucks. Overall i like the new body/interior of them i have drove one and they handle completly dif compare to the previous style like mine suspension is much smoother. Go test drive one and you will see

Yeah I test drove one the other day and it was great. I have never riden in a Dodge that smooth. It was very nice. The only thing I didn't like was the full center consol. Im a big guy and I kinda felt like I was squeezed in there. I drove another with the split bench and really enjoyed it.

What a coincidence. On Saturday I drove my first ever Dodge Ram. I'll be getting into a new truck in about 4 months, and the dealers up here just got the 2500/3500 Cummins trucks in 3 weeks ago. I've narrowed it down to either the Ford or the Dodge. I've driven the Ford 250 diesel. Nice looking truck. The motor seemed fine, and tranny was very smooth. A very nice looking truck, and the interior was quite nice for an XLT XTR model. Having heard that the Dodge had upgraded their ride, handling, and interior, I was curious to see if it could now be a comfortable daily driver or still just the best "work only" truck around. Well, my eyes have been opened. Not only is the interior in the SLT very close to the XLT Ford, but it rides almost as well. It also has a nicer factory sound to it than the Ford. Hey, I like the sound of a diesel. Either way, now I'm leaning towards the 2500 Cummins. Hope there are some left to buy in August or September. Just my two cents.

In my honest opinion, the 2010 Ram is right on par with Ford's SuperDuty. In years past I thought they lacked the quality that the Fords interior had. I think Dodge (or whoe ever the hell designed this truck) finally hit the ball out of the park. With the 6.7 Cummins/68re, I think it's hard for the current models offered by GM and Ford to match this new truck.`Plus, the ride quality is great!

I have a NDS 2007 GMC, with the LMM, I had an oil leak, they reprogrammed the transmission, twice and put a fuse holder in the heated windshield wiper circuit. I have 47,000K on it. everything but the oil leak was when I was around appointment, and took less than a half hour. I live 160K from the dealer, so I need something that does not need a lot of dealer support. I tow heavy, I worked on the 6.7 for 2 years, before Dodge got them and could have got a large discount to buy one, I bought a GMC Just a thought!

In your time working on the 6.7 Cummins, what did you find that steered you away from it? Did you also spend time working on the Duramax thus finding superior construction to the Cummins thus enabling you to make a more educated purchase?

First off the 5.9 with the P7100 is a great engine, the VP 44 is the worst --- there is. the 6.7 we had continual problems, with the timing reference sensors, low power problems, that was usually boost sensors, or a valve set. I have worked on 5.9's and 6.7's since they came out, and I did not like the transmission choice. The duramax was also the choice of people that I knew and they had very little problems with theirs, And I know and trust the Alison. I bought a set of manuals when I bought the truck and have no worries doing anything on the LMM. Where I live we have mountains, and I worked in a class eight shop, and did field service work. Talking to the tow truck drivers on the "COKE" and other people was good enough for me. Just because I can repair an engine does not mean I want to, and my concerns have been proven from people I know that bought the 6.7 mine has never been towed theirs have. I have been at this stuff for a long time, have done 6.2's 6.5's 8.2's and every class eight engine except Mac and Volvo. They all have stuff that goes up and down, they all have stuff that goes round and round.

I always prefer to base my opinion on something based on experience rather than word of mouth and that's why I asked. Don't get me wrong, I listen to people's optinion. I have heard of more than a handlful of people dog dmax/allison and since I have no REAL experience, it's hard for me to tell some one to stear clear of it or to reccomend it.

Well I had experience with the 6.7 and I did not like it and as I was retiring I did not want to have to work on my truck continually, so I bought the Duramax Alison. I live in the mountains and Pull a 14 ft dump trailer, my decision has proved to be correct. Two of my very good friends bought Dodge pick-ups with hemi's and I think it is a great truck, one is a 2009 and the other is a 2010, I went with him to buy and pick up the 2010, and they had new diesels in the shop being repaired, and the mechanic there was not a fan either. They took what was a great engine and managed to s***w it up, with first a poor fuel system, VP44, and electronics. Then with the 6.7 they did not get the electronics right or the pollution side either or you would not have to have the turbo cleaned. And as I said I did not like the transmission either.
