I have an 86 GMC 6500 with a 8.2L Detroit. I slung a rod in it yesterday and I know a guy that has a complete 7.3L I can buy. My question is how does the motor mounts and transmission link up from the Detroit to the 7.3. Is there a conversion kit? Do I have to have a new transmission?

I think that Detroit is SAE 2...Ford Powerstroke is not SAE, but Ford/International engine mounts & bell housing...its probably easier to find another SAE engine to swap in there...or move the entire 7.3 & transmission in there. I know the 7.3L & transmission is computer-controlled (unless it's a manual)...I'm not sure on the Detroit engine...wish I could help more...
