Anyone here do a roll on paint job?

I might be getting a strong running truck soon that needs some body work and a paint job. I have to do it cheap but I do not want to sacrifice quality and longevity. While looking for ideas on the interwed I found some videos of people rolling Rustolum on their vehicles. I am quite impressed by the results. But, how well does it hold up? I have seen cheap paint even with proper prep work give out and fade in a short amount of time. Does it hold up to buffing? I would like to have a wet clear coat look when done.

You get what you pay for in a paint job. If you want a cheap paint job you will get that. Spend the time and $$ for a decent paint job. Perpetration is 90% of the job. Do it right or don't do it at all.

I've seen some trucks painted with roll-on Rustoleum and they look good. Although I've heard that cleaning them is not easy, you need to scrub it to remove the dirt, and Rustoleum fades quickly. If you are on a budget, you can get cheap automotive paint, sprayer and find a decent air compressor.

I acyually have the tools for a good spray on job. I can see how the Rustolium would fade.

I agree with the poster that said it's probably best to do it good or not at all. I don't have an interest in painting, well I do, but not in putting in the time and effort (which isn't really available to me) to paint my ride. A professional paint job is, well, professional. Good luck with whatever you go with, though.

Any method used has a right and wrong way of doing it.

I remember seeing a paint job of a Charger that was done with house paint which was kinda funny. Was sanded and prepped like a regular automotive job and it turned out smooth haha.

It's been done, one example is using a roll on bed liner over a rusty body it will hold it together for a little while.
