high idle?

saw the high idle option on my sct.. I set my idle to 875rpm. will I be ok with this choice? cold morning starts are ruff and need the truck warm to get to high way speeds. its been good and I like the high idle but is it safe on my truck and turbo?

As long as its not making your transm jerk when shifting from park to drive or reverse, then it should be fine. I have a high idle switch hooked up on mine, but it only works in park/nuetral. If you forget to turn it off(like my wife does) and put it in gear, then it automatically returns to normal idle as soon as you depress the brake pedal, until you shift back into park, then it goes back up. The high idle mod is pre-wired into the upfitter wires on all 6.0's as far as I know. You just have to tap into the correct two wires under the drivers side underdash area and run them to a toggle switch. It makes my truck idle at about 1150-1200 rpm, which is good on cold mornings or anytime extended idling is needed, like while waiting for a 2mile long train in 10 degree weather, and you want that heater to stay nice and toasty. If your cold starts are rough or no power until warmed up, may want to try some 5w40 or 10w30 motor oil, or maybe you already do, I don't know. The thinner motor oil works better in colder weather for the 6.0

the high idle mod harry refers to can be done in 15 minutes to any 6.0 with an auto trans.cost being a 6 in jumper wire. i frequently start the truck with it on. no harm is done then engine has to have oil pressure before it will even fire even then it usually goes 5-10 seconds before it spools up. FWIW i operate a 600 hp cat minimum idle is 1400 rpm, no prelube no fancy crap. cat built it an cat warranties it, no problems remotely related to high start up idle

When I ordered my truck I also got the AIC. It only comes on when the trans is in Park or Neutral and the praking brake is set. Truck idles up to 1250 RPM. Keith
