blew up transmission with river city diesel tunes

its an 06 f250 with 110k on it. its my brothers truck and i have done trans filters and a drain and refill every 25k and the fluid was never that dark, then he got an sct x3 with the rcd custom tunes and had a bunch of problems, my exact same truck with 140K and sct street tune will walk away from his with the rcd race tune. but anyways he said his trans temp maxxed out the one day so i pulled the plug and the fluid was black. i pulled the pan and about 2cm of metal shavings and the filter housing was filled to the top with shavings. i am a diesel tech at the local dealer so i cand get a factory rebuilt for 2500 with a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty. or should he spend the money and get the ats one that is 5300$ or are there any other cheaper better trans companies out there. i personally feel that it was river city diesels tune that ****ed it up but no way to tell and sct and rcd are both denying any type of assistance with it. sct says its the custom tunes and rcd says its the mileage. i know stuff happens but i have never seen one come apart like that

I can't seriously be blaming the tuner for the tranny problems? When you add power the weaker parts are gonna break.

2005 2500HD DIRTYMAX 6in lift, dual exhaust, afe airbox. Tuner soon to come

2001 PSD shortbed crewcab, ATS tranny edge juice w/attitude, Superchips programmer, Gauges, exhaust, 4inch lift w/35s, (SOLD)

First off, you play, you pay.

Power adders + 110K + . . .

Get factory rebuild. Chances are he won't have the truck another 3 years anyway, will he?

You play, you pay. still stock original trans. 171,xxx, the last 130,000 w/ a tune. Its all in how you use it. pointing fingers at a company is just not right. You should have known you were resposible for the truck the moment you plugged it in.........................

I am not saying the tuning couldn't have caused a problem (I wasn't there, so I don't know) but what you just described as being in the pan and filter housing did not happen because of "one day". It sounds to me like that tranny has been abused over a much longer period of time than that and I seriously doubt the owner had no hand in that abuse...... He should have realized something was amiss long before it ended up with all that debris in the pan and filter housing.

just go with a factory rebuild. DO NOT go with ATS if you get an aftermarket trans....they suck and customer service sucks along with it. I personally haven't dealt with them or have their trans, but i and others haven't heard anything good with them reguarding ford transmissions.

I had zero problems with my ATS. In fact I would rather have my tranny out of my stroker than the allison I have now.

Interesting. I know they do well in the Chevy market, although they have treated several folks with 5R110's that I know personally pretty badly. I hadn't heard many good things concerning them with Fords and you are the first that I have heard of having a good experience with a 4R100.
