SCT Tuner Question

I got a used 2004 truck last year with 88k miles. This year I got a SCT 3015 tuner. When I check the vehicle information it reads; Strategy VXBC9N8 & TQBF0NA. When I load the Performance tune into the vehicle it reads Engine Strategy - VXBC9N8 and Trans Strategy - TQBF0NA. They are the same. Should the strategy numbers change when I loaded a tune? Does this mean that the vehicle had the Performance tune already loaded in it? The unlock went from 5 to 4 after the first time I used the tuner.

Strategy numbers shouldn't change. Unlock means that it's recorded your vehicles vin into the device. If you used the sct in a different truck, you would lose another unlock. Do this enough times, and all unlocks are gone, then the tuner is locked and won't work, unless you send it in to be unlocked, which they charge for. So right now you still have 4 unlocks left, it will remain at 4 unless you use the sct in a different truck other than yours. You can load and unload all the tunes you want in your truck, and you should still remain at 4 unlocks.

Actually you can use it in any truck that is the same as your own with out using any unlocks.

Nope, the SCT reads your VIN, and locks onto it, so when you go and return to stock tune, it has stored your VIN, now when you go to use it on another truck, it sees that it's not the same VIN and uses up a unlock.

Once it has a stored VIN, it is locked to that truck. This truck can now put in and take out as many tunes as it wants an not use any unlocks.

Recap, the SCT uses up a unlock when it sees a different VIN.
