SCT Custom Tunes

I am sure you have all answered this question before but things change. SO who has the best tunes out there? Considering price, customer service, performance, etc. Just want the best. I will be getting a tow tune, street tune and race tune.

Thank you

Jason

Above is who I use.

Below is another option that many use.

Both above are excellent choices, but some others may chime in with some recommendations.

Is there a way to tell who's tunes are on a tuner? Buddy has a SCT X3 and I am sure it has some Custom tune for EGR delete but he doesn't know who's tune or what it is. the Guy that did the H/Gs put it on it..

When you load a custom tune on an SCT X3, your supposed to personally name it when you load it into the custom file section, so you know which tune it is for your own purposes. The custom tune may have a file name from the tuning writer in the email address it's sent to if it was aquired this way, but thats not part of the actual tuning, you still need to name it when you load it into the device.

So the short answer is, there is no easy way to ID the custom tuning file writer.

If you know who did the HG's and loaded the tuning is probably the best way to find out what the tuning is.

I was just curious Harry, I don't think my buddy really cares that much. As long as it starts and drives he is happy, I would go into details about the HGs but he drove for over a year with it leaking pretty bad. .

I ended up with Gearheads tuning. Matt is very easy to work with and his tunes just worked well with my truck set up. Mike with KEM is a stand up guy, I just couldn't get the truck to run quite like I wamted and couldn't see getting down to FL to live tune it. 6 years ago I tried Elite Diesel. At that time their customer service was horrible. Not sure how they are today. Too bad too as they are 1hr away.

Well I threw 100$ down at KEM and bought two more tunes today. I wanted another Tow tune. I also wanted to try a little more performance and ordered a Street tune you know - cruising for babes.

My special request was to lower the fan clutch points by 5 degrees so it will pulse sooner and lock sooner. I won't get to really test it towing till this spring when going to the happiest place on earth. Both tunes have the lower set points.

I thought about setting the points at 205 and 215 but figured it would start to lower fuel economy. Ordered online Saturday and had my files at 10:30 this morning.

Weld I had Grarhead do that with my fan and I really line it. Seems to keep it cooler. There are some interesting threads about the BPD 7.3 fan clutch that seems to really keep things cooler, but I'm. Getting pretty good MPG considering my mods and running 200-210 ect. I've run his steet file a year now and like it. Haven't towed. Harry you asked for info on my temps withy the remote oil cooler. 70-75 mph from Denver to Springs I run 208ect 204 EOT. Going the other way I run 200 extra and 195 EOT. 70-90 ambient air temp. I'm ok withy the temps now and feel comfortable with them. I put a scan gauge on our 450 which is stock other than heavy duty remote oil cooler, BPD EGR and, 58v FICM and it runs the same temps. We tow heavy with it so I'm curious to see readings his year.

Been running my street tune from KEM and it's nice. More aggressive but not too much. One thing I noticed today is my idle ICP is 715 instead of 640 like it used to be. Looking forward to tow tune with cooler fan clutch points.

Glad your new tune is working for you Weld. And yes, Mike bumps the icp up at idle for better throttle response, mine is way bumped up (790 psi @ idle) for the PowerMax turbo lag, which is non existent with his tuning in my truck. The only thing is though, with higher idle icp you get louder injector clatter, but I'll take that over lag in off the line acceleration.
