Which type transm fluid was in the transm when the problem started ?
Which type fluid is the current fill ?
Mercon LV or Mercon SP ??
There has been some controversy about Ford now recommending Mercon SP again after they said earlier that Mercon LV was the approved replacement for SP because it was not going to be produced anymore, but now it is again.
All this may have nothing to do with your transm faults, but how did the fluid look in the bottom of the original pan when it was off...lots of small metallic shiny particles?...Burn't smelling fluid?
If so on either of the above , then yes, it's rebuild time.
I'm still running Mercon LV but will be switching back again to the SP. I have not had any issues so far with the LV, but one never knows.
