Question Best upgrades for towing & reliability

I am looking at buying a used 2003 f-350 4x4 w/102,000 miles on it checks ok on oasis, & is a body fixer that w/have to have the cab removed for repair & wanted to know what all mods i should consider(exhaust, studs tuners & which ones, etc.). My dad & i do some excavating jobs on weekends and evenings so i often tow our small excavating equip. (small dozer, bobcat mini- excavater, case 580B backhoe and etc) combined load weight of around 20 -22,000 lbs. but the truck will also be replacing my '96 so it will have to be reliable & driveable while retaining decent fuel milage. cuz itll be my daily driver also.

thanx in advance for all your suggestions

i have an 03 250 6L...im guessin this ones a 6 also, cuz 03 was an option or that or 7.3. if its a 6L, while the cab is removed def. go ahead and stud it! on my truck i put on an airraid intake, i saved some $$ and just cut off my cut and muffler and put on a 5" tip for 150 alltogether, as for a tuner, sct is pretty much what everybody on here recommends because of the shifting and custom tuning abilities they have. as for mileage towing that much weight i would say you will be from 10-12 mpg and empty i have seen up to 21 but that depends on driving habits, gearing of the truck, tire size, etc.....hope this helps!

Tadd at Elite wrote me a tune for my SCT called the tow boss program. It has full converter lock up on deceleration, a more aggressive tow/mode, and utilizes the vgt exhaust brake feature. It really helps slow the truck down. Any decent exhaust kit with a cat delete will work well. But definately at least install a pyrometer, especially since you'll be towing alot.

well............ get a single non vgt turbo from Elite... you kill a few birds with one stone... get rid of vgt, better airflow, and can utilize an exhaust brake with the non vgt turbos... they are going to have some kind of turbo tow kit for people not looking for go fast builds but want a reliable stout tow rig...these guys are on the ball....

The egr block off plate keeps the exhaust gas from entering the "ehaust gas return" cooler. The cooler utilizes engine coolant to attempt to cool the exhaust gas before it enters the intake. This is one of the primary causes of "puking". This is very common when running hotter tunes and especially while towing heavy loads.
Run the block off plate, or get rid of the "Y" to the cooler completely. Also have whoever writes your tunes turn off the EGR also.
