hypermax head gasket and fire ring kit

Has anyone installed a hypermax gasket and fire ring kit in their 6.0L? I Have a 2004 and have recently purchased one and in the kit that they send you they have a lapping tool for the heads and for the block. I guess you are suppose to put valve lapping compound on top of the block on the outer edge of the cylinder bore. You are suppose to put this tool in the cylinder bore and spin the tool back and forth on the lapping compound. And with the heads you are suppose the put the tool in the groove after it is machined and lap the head. I just don't understand what the hell is the point to lap the head and the block. And the rings are c-rings instead of solid steel rings. When they are installed they need to have anti-cease on them. Anyone with any info would be great!

do not put antisieze on the fire rings, they are a solid stainless steal, they recommend that you use the lapping compand, on one truck i did do it, but haven't on the other trucks i've done, and there running fine, the purpose of the lapping tool is to make sure you have a smooth surface for the rings to sit on and a clean smooth surface to seal on. hope this helps.

Yes, it helps quite a bit. I just wasn't sure if the lapping procedure was neccessary. Also my rings aren't solid rings from hypermax. They are called c-rings.

2004 F-350 XLT SC 4x4: SCT, AFE stage II, autometer gauges(pyro, boost, tranny, fuel), edge insight, CFM large mouth intake elbow, spearco, snow performance water injection, 5" stacks, ARP's, fluidampr, hypermax fire rings, LIPD regulated return, FASS, fuelab, casserly 190's, 64/71/70 turbo(polished compressor housing)modded FICM(ID), Hellmann's sump, electirc fans

Also i had called hypermax on the installation part of the kit and Ron from hypermax told me the exactly what you said. That the lapping process is to create a good clean surface for the rings to seat to. He also said to put anti-seize on the rings.
