Module Tuner vs. SCT Q's

How do products like edge juice platinum make power? Is it by increased boost or timing, what?

Besides the transmission tuning (or lack there of), is the power they make safe?

Is the way an SCT tune makes power different then the way edge juice makes power?

Basically, modules "trick" the PCM by intercepting the signals between the engine and the PCM and modifying them. Whereas a tuner like the SCT is a rewrite of the PCM's programming, giving the tuner exact control over the parameters they want to change... So yes, the two are very different in their approaches to making power.

In my experience, the Edge does not make any more boost than a stock truck and I don't believe they use a lot of timing either since they specifically did cylinder pressure testing while writing their programming to keep those pressures down.

Even though no aftermarket tuning that adds power is really "safe", the Edge module is about as engine safe as one can reasonably expect such a device to be....

sct does more tuning. edge tuners dont tune anything they fool the computer and they dont tune the tranny. also stacking on a powerstroke is counterproductive. only works well on a cummins. not that you were asking but if i was asking the op question that would be why i was asking

Are SCT tunes safer then module tunes?

I know that the edge platinum isn't as good as an SCT tune, but anyone know of anyone losing a tranny on the platinum or any puking or any other problems?

Are SCT tunes safer than modules....... That has been debated ad nauseum on here.

Safer for what?? Against puking?? Not really. If you don't believe me, perform a search on here for puking threads and then look to see what power adders are used. But there is a caveat to that.. Most of those are running custom tunes that make more power than the modules, so of course they will lead to more incidents of puking because of the higher stresses those tunes produce.. If you stick to the mild or canned tunes, the SCT is just as safe as the modules but then again, those tunes don't make any more power than the modules either.....

I do not recall reading about any Platinum equipped trucks that puke or have blown up a tranny.. That is not to say it has not happened, just that I have not read about any.

Thanks teamroper60 for all the good info.

I have been keeping up on what everyone says and it does seem that many SCT users that run the higher power tunes do have some issues. Not everyone has issues, but no power adders seem to be safe.

Nock on wood I've been tuned for close to a year running 130hp spartan ase and the past month on 175hp spartan hybrid race and other than a ficm I have had no issues and the truck runs more like a 2500lb sports car instead of a big slow bulky truck. Keep in mind I do drive my truck but I also still have the same tires I bought the truck with 2yrs ago and they weren't brand new. Meaning I don't smoke'em and for the most part I get out early and drive for mpgs

The SCT can be custom tunned to your needs. We can add power safely w/o going overboard.
