Fuel mileage and towing

So I just got back from running a 700 mile round trip to my dads last weekend. I pull a 33' travel trailer that weighs about 9K. In the past when running just my Banks PowerPDA, i would set it on 4 and get about 13 mpg. This was my first time running the SCT tuner pulling the trailer. I ran Dfusers tow tune with brake, I ran the heavy tow with brake and the aggresive tow with brake from spartan and all three gave me horrible fuel mileage, 10 or less. So my question is why do the SCT tunes give me less mileage? Is it the brake function or the actual engine parameters? I was very tempted to go back to a trans only tune and turn the PDA back to 4.

What are you guys running and what kind of mileage numbers so you get?

Jason

I am wondering if the brake feature hurts the fuel mileage?

Wind resistance is pretty severe with a travel trailer, especially a tall one/toy hauler. A 5th wheel uses the truck for some aerodynamics and they tend to get better economy. Your tire sizes and gear play a big role too. 4:10s will get better towing mileage than 3:73s.

If you pulled the same trailer with the banks and the sct gave worse mileage, I would be really concerned with the advanced timing the banks pda is doing on you. 4 mpg seems like a big difference. I doubt the engine would last long if the timing is that much better.

My $.02. BTW, my 3:73s with 18" tires gets me 9-10 mpg with my tall 30' toy hauler empty or loaded. Stock or with a tow safe tune (turbo brake enabled) same poor mileage.

I am running 4:30s. Forgive my ignorance but why would better fuel mileage mean that I was running more timing and why would that make my engine life shorter?
