FICM question

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I had to start somewhere.

I'm pretty sure my FICM is going bad and I've found a couple of folks with FICM's for sale.

My question is, can I use any FICM in my 2005? I've been reading that the 03's were a little different than the 04-07's and I don't want to buy something that isn't going to work. Yes, I know the FICM will need to be programmed.

The one person I found selling a brand new one was able to give me an International part # (1845117C5-5847068) but I haven't had any luck cross-referencing that to a Ford part # to see if this one is compatible. Before I get flamed, yes I looked in the 190 page International cross-reference guide and yes used the search button.

Any help ya'll can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.....

It is my understanding the FICM is the same for all years. You should be able to buy any of them, have it programmed and use it on your truck... The difference in the 03 FICM was software related, not hardware...

The hardware was transparent to the years, software was year specific. There was a recent hardware change to the FICMs to make them more robust and less prone to failure.

I read where you said that in another forum. That was news for me. But the FICMs are still able to be swapped from year to year, correct??

The hardware is the same for ford and ih. If you tell the ih dealer it is for a ford most will tell you it does not work. I went thru this a few months ago on my truck. About the cheapest thing I could find new was $600+ depending on the ford or ih dealer. Some were $1000 or more. The dealer ended up selling me the one I got for $550. He knew I was shopping and gave me a break

Ford FICM replacement

Hello, my 2005 F350SD with 6.0L just stalled on the driveway and would not restart - thought it was bad fuel/water/the usual, but new filters later and two nights in 10F weather - no luck. Snap On SOLUS confirmed that FICM had died, but still responded. Truck had high pressure oil pump fail 2 years ago and do similar no start condition with exception that FICM failure allowed one crack and Hipres had no pops whatsoever. Year later, oil cooler failed - pressurized glycol circuit with oil, now residue ruining all hoses as dealer did not flush properly-pudding in tank. As if this was not enough, constant 11MPG since new and now FICM dies out of warranty. Sorry, needed to vent -

To the point FICM 184511C5 at local salvage for $255 (great!), but not "new" improved C6 suffix - from my dealer mechanic buddy (with solus) $600 cash his cost. Navistar NEW part sub is 1847094C95 (their old sub 1847094C94) if anyone can benefit offered to me for $695 in MIdwest area...

Does anyone know if PHP can send already programmed FICM with modified software more akin to 2003 version (better mileage needed desperately), or do you send module and get it flashed and then sent back?

My FICM died about 6 months ago. 2003 with 112,000 miles. Searched all salvage yards in the houston area (alot of them) and found 1. It was from the same year. Bought it for $250.00 plugged it in same day and truck runs fine. No programming needed. Truck starts instantly and seems to have improved power also. Guess i got lucky. 5000 miles and running fine.
