New Tuner user

Looking to pick up an SCT Livewire tuner tommorrow morning. I do not have studs installed. Just using canned tunes for the first few months. Do you think this would be ok without head studs? Not looking to buy extreme tunes just yet. Any advice whether to buy or not without studs installed? Buying at a very good price and cant pass up a good deal.

Theres no definite yes or no answer to how your truck will hold up to a tune. More than likely, esp with the canned tunes you wont have any probs. Many trucks on here have gone thousands of miles on stock bolts with extreme tunes and not had a prob. And some have not lasted a month, others have had probs stock.

If you plan on doing studs in a few months anyway, let her rip.
I dont plan on doing studs on my truck anytime soon, but I dont plan on holding back on the throttle either. If it blows it blows, Ill fix it when the time comes, whether it be this weekend or 5 years from now.

I did just have the head gaskets replaced within the last six months. Under warranty of course. I had just bought the truck and within 50 miles from dealership it overheated. It took them about a month to get it back to me. Not sure if this matters or not. But the head gaskets and the top end are fairly new.

Im assuming you bought it used, how many miles were on it?

Even with the parts being new, there still stock head bolts and will eventually stretch and blow like all the others, when subjected to tuner.
Just read the "How many miles on stock headbolts" thread in the 6.0 forum. The ones that have made it to 100K without major probs have never been tuned.

It had 90k miles on it. Now it has 102k on it. I will have to check the bill of materials for the repair to see if they replaced them. Just dont want to spend the money and the tuner and then had the heads blow in amonth.
