Serious problems!

My buddy has a 2003.5 6.0 with about 120000miles on it. Its had the HG's replaced along with a couple injectors and the HPOP. This was all done about 4 months ago. Last weekend we were coming back from the drag strip on the highway cruising at 75mph. He has an SCT tuner with RCD's Extreme tune, but at the time he had it on the stock tune. Well im driving behind him when he decides to give it a quick punch of the throttle. He throws a pretty good amount of smoke out. Knowing his truck was on a stock tune i figured he broke something. but we keep rolling for about 30 mins. then he gets on the throttle again and this time stays on it. Hes rolling so much smoke he makes 3 cars slam the brakes. i get in front of him and watch as the smoke pours out the exhaust, i noticed that shortly after the smoke came out it would disappear. This is when i realized something is seriously wrong with his truck. The truck wasnt putting out any black smoke....but a ton of white smoke. We get into town and hes about a half mile behind me. he calls me telling me to come pick him up cause the truck wont run anymore. i look in the rear view and see a HUGE wall of white smoke where an intersection should be. little while later i look at the truck and of course its leaking coolant out the degas bottle. this is where im really confused. I look under the truck and the side of the block is completely covered in coolant. the next day i take another look at the truck and theres oil dripping out of the exhaust pipe. What i want to know is what is most likely wrong with the truck? besides blown HGs. thanks.

He blew his EGR cooler!

Whats dripping out is because of all the fluid going threw the exhaust and absorbing lots of Soot!

Thanks bill. You think its the Head Gaskets too? sense it leaking coolant out the degas, or is that one of the effects of a bad egr cooler?

if you said that there's oil dripping out of the exhaust pipe, that pretty much tells me he blew the turbo.

I'm betting just egr cooler. Won't know untill you pull the valve and look or dig into it.

Are you sure its oil or do you think its soot that got wet.?

If it is in fact oil and not wet soot then also check the oil pressure. After the dealer here in town replaced my egr cooler at 52000 miles years ago I picked the truck up (after two weeks, they messed up the first cooler somehow and pushed the truck outside for a week with the top of the engine torn down while they waited on parts) and on the 20 mile ride back to my house it soaked my other car that a friend was driving for me in oil and was spewing white/blue smoke the whole trip. Oil was leaking from the exhaust and was all over the front of my other car and I had to add 4 quarts to put oil back at the full mark on the dipstick.

Long story short I was building 130 to 150 psi oil pressure and it was spraying out of the turbo into the exhaust. I took the lpop regulator out (12mm hex just behind the crank pulley under the truck) and found it to be scored up. I got a new regulator and spring from ford for $17US (wholesale since im a mechanic I got it from my shop) and I had to replace the y -pipe that their tech broke while doing the egr cooler. With the new regulator the oil pressure doesn't get over 100 psi ever. I took the whole exhaust system off and pressure washed it all out but probably could have just let it burned out. The turbo was fine it didn't leak after fixing the oil pressure problem.

Needless to say I have performed my own work since then even while it was still in warranty (I got 163000 on it now) and refuse to let anyone else work on mine anymore.

The reason i cant see it being turbo failure is that when the truck was producing all that white smoke....the boost gauge was still saying the turbo was making boost. wouldnt the turbo stop making boost if it died?
