Fuel gauge took a dump

about a week ago i went to fill my truck up, put 28 gallons in it and the needle didnt move. it slowly went up over about a 85 mile trip. sense then its gone down but wont go past a half tank and i know im well beyond that.
is there a float in the tank? is it possible for it to get stuck? Please Help!!

mine did the same thing fill up and wold only go to half ford will only sell the entire unit but you can go to powerstrokeshop.com and they sell just the sender and are the cheapest that I can find on ford parts just search fuel sender unit its like 160 bucks the local ford garage wold only get me the entire in tank unit and wanted like 450 or 500

2004 ford F350 6.0L 6 speed manual,SCT live wire,south bend double disk clutch,short throw shifter fx4. Costome exhaust 4 inch turbo back to 5" homade stacks, banjo bolt mod, shimed regulator,custom leveling kit (not blocks) and air lift air bags with onbord air suply TRADED FOR

2006 ford F 250 Amarillo 4" turbo back other than that stock for now
