ebpv surge?

just got my truck back from the dealer they had the motor out and resealed my oilpan and replaced my manifolds and the uppipes to the turbo, anyways noticed yesterday moringn on cold startup, when the ebpv kicks in, it surges. before it used to make a rushing/hising noise steady till it either warmed up or you hit the brake pedal. now it does it in surges,, like hard to describe, but it comes on and off every 2 seconds or so, like shhh, pause, shhhh, pause , shhh pause, any ideas what is going on to cuase this? could it be something they did?

It could be that the sensor is going bad or the wires are screwed up or the tube is plugged.

Do you really use the EBPV that much where you are?

It's worth gutting if you don't need it.

is the sensor mounted on the end of the tube that comes out of the rh front exhuast manifold?, i priced the sensor at ford it's $200.00! they put new manifolds on my truck and had the tube off so i think they would of cleaned the tube . if it was dirty, didn't do this before it went into the shop. maybe a bad sensor???? is it the one i am looking at?

Try this:

Unplug the thing tonight and see if it does it to you tomorrow morning.

Look here:

https://www.thedieselgarage.com/forum...ad.php?t=59957

If it doesn't, then there's your problem.

If you don't need it, get yourself a set of pedestal o-rings and delete the whole thing.

Pg 33 of the document found @ http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/articl...icle-06-08.php

It's listed as the "98-99.5 7.3 DIT Direct Injection Turbocharged Diesel" on that page and it's 39MB - via one of the 7.3L Sticky Archive posts - shows the sensor as being relocated to the front of the HPOP oil reservoir.

That document is a nice one to keep handy for future use with your truck.

so if i unplug it , will the ebpv come on in the morn? is it possible to clean the sensor, looks like the used silicone on my ,manifolds, wonder if a peice could of blocked the sensor or something..i dunno about deleting it, it gerts pretty cold here in the winter and i don't think the truck would warm up without it... can get to -25c without the windchill...

RTV on your exhaust manifolds??????

Better be very high temp stuff

You should be plugging it in at those temps anyways, but if it's unplugged it should not come on. If it does, you have a mechanical malfunction and will need to get it serviced/replaced.

Your truck will warm up just as fast without the EBPV.... just won't make that annoying sound.

ya i am taking it back saturday, but what they said is if it is not something they did , they don't know if the warranty will cover it until they know what is wrong so i may have to pay..
what i noticed today is it was not cold out this morn, started truck, everything normal for the first 2 minutes approx, then after about a minute of the hissing, which is normal it starts to cycle/surge, could this be it trying to come off of the ebpv ??? usually in the winter it will sit on the ebpv till i get in it and hit the brake.. but maybe it is too warm and it wants to pull off but can't or is it normal, anyone out there confirm this?
