Question Running rough and engine light comes on

I am new here to this site. A month ago I bought a 2003 7.3L F-250 and approximately every 700 miles while running it will start running very rough and lose power and check engine light comes on. I pull over and restart the truck and runs fine until it happens again. One code that pulls up is 603. 2 weeks after I got it I put a TS Performance chip on but it has happened before and after. Any ideas?

2003 7.3L F-250, 4WD, 4-door, short bed, 4" straight stainless pipe, TS Performance chip, K&N Filter with stock air box.

What are you using to get that code? That doesn't sound like a regular DTC code from our trucks.

its one of the newest scanners that snap-on makes but i dont know which model. just checked agian two other codes came up 1316 and1211 the 603 code wasnt there this time. i dont know all that much about it but wouldnt it be a sensor or loose connection since it resets itself and runs perfect after restarting?

P1316 is almost always a loose UVCH. P0603 is a common code when you're running a chip. You can ignore that one. P1211 is also likely chip related. You'll see this one in the future after leaning hard on the skinny pedal. The CEL will light up briefly, but there will be no performance issues. Again, it's normal with a chip so ignore it.

Thank you for your help! I've check the driver's side which seemed okay so I'll check the other side. When I get this problem repaired I'm considering getting a cold air intake. Considering Banks because they advertise the coldest air, but AFE stage 2 says theirs adds 50 HP and 112
FTLB torque. This sounds high to me. I think I like Banks better. Any suggestions?

Yes, stop believing all the advertisements you read. As for coldest air or most HP, all the good ones are pretty close on the actual dyno. AFE is a good filter. So is banks, but banks stuff tends to be overpriced. S&B also makes a good filter which some say does a better job in the filter dept. Many just run a 6637 filter and save a couple of hundred.

Do some reading and pay attention to what others are using and ask questions on what they do and don't like about it. You'll learn a lot by just reading here.
